When confronted by a potential predator we have to decide quickly whether to fight or flee. One of my favorite lines from the movie “The Matrix”.
Cypher told Neo, “You see an agent, you do what we do. Run. You run your ass off”. That proved to be a good fight or flight advice.
The characters in the movie lived over-stressed lives similar to the modern fast-paced life of today. We don’t have to worry about a Saber Toothed Tiger pouncing on use or a computer-generated Agent sucking the life out of us.
We face modern high-pressure stress that can feel just as real.
When the fight or flight response kicks in the part of the brain called the amygdala goes to work. We temporarily become superhuman. The amygdala activates our body’s fear circuits, which increases our heart rate and blood pressure.
We get hot, dry mouth, our muscles tense for action. We are immediately are ready to respond quickly to a threat. The body begins to make adjustments to deal with threats.

You can spend days in a highly stressful fight or flight state. Over time this can affect your health, well-being, and happiness.

You can’t avoid all stress, and low levels of stress can be beneficial. You have to be mindful of the effects of excessive stress. Understand your real goals and the actual cost. Take stock of what is critical in your life.

Learn to say “NO” and don’t overload your schedule. Learn to live more with less. Planning to spend more quality time with good friends and family will help lead to less stress in life.
Working hard to buy more stuff and manage more possession will cause more stress in life. Choose experiences over things.
Remember you are not alone. Use your community to assist in creating less stress in life. If you feel stress and anxiety creeping into your daily life, talk to friends and family about it.
Just venting with someone will help more than you think. The person does not even have to have expertise on the subject. Just sharing and creating memories will help. Even talking to a pet or a baby can help. LOL.
